Family and private buggy tours

To drive a buggy you need to be at least 18 and comfortable with a throttle and brake; no licence is required. Children under 18 ride as passengers on a two-seat buggy, seated behind a parent or behind one of our guides.

Very young children are the one case where we sometimes say no, and we say so before you book rather than at the meeting point. If a child is too small to hold on securely for the whole ride, a short camel walk is the better choice that day.

A private booking means the guide is yours. Nobody in the group is waiting on strangers, the pace is yours, and stopping for ten minutes because a seven-year-old wants to roll down a dune is not a problem.

It also means the route is chosen for you. With children we stay on rounded, forgiving dunes and skip the steep faces we use for experienced riders.

We run multiple buggies together with a guide riding front and back, which keeps everyone in sight. For larger groups tell us the number of riders and how many want to share a two-seat buggy, and we quote a total per buggy.

Sunset is the popular slot for groups and it books out first in high season, so give us a day or two of notice where you can.

Ride early or at sunset rather than in the middle of the day, especially between May and September. Long sleeves and closed shoes beat shorts and sandals, and sunglasses or goggles matter more than sunscreen once the wind picks up.

One hour is the right length for most families. Children stay excited for an hour; two hours is where the tiredness starts.
